Hello there. This is the beginning of what might be something incredibly fun and amazing, a dream realized if you will, or perhaps an overgrown garden of possibilities. I'm hoping for the first.
My name is Sarah - SaritaBonita if you'd like. The nickname comes from my Colombian husband (who knows very little about coffee or cocaine, so don't even ask). We own a contemporary furniture store in one of the most traditional regions in the Country, which makes for a nice challenge. It also keeps us in business, I mean where else are you gonna find sweet looking furniture like that? But first, let me back up by saying my first career and love was broadcasting. That's right, I used to get paid to talk and be funny on the radio. I loved my industry...but as someone told me very early into my career, "It'll never love ya back". Sexually harass you? Yes. But love you? No. So after 10 years I left that field and became a master at the art of sales. Years went by, my husband and I kept our heads down and did our thang. Making money and making a name for ourselves was the path we stayed on. Oh, and raise his two children from a previous marriage. I might write a book on that someday, but not here right now. Then we had our own beautiful baby boy, which gave me a feeling of being complete. Well, sort of. Let me explain. First, I think it's typical of all women like myself to start by saying, "Not that I'm not grateful for all that I have". Because certainly I wouldn't want anyone to misinterpret anything as a complaint, I have no major complaints. But, here's the deal. I met a wonderful group of women a while back and realized we are all going through very similar experiences in life, just change the names, places and dinnertimes. We laugh about the same stuff, we drink the same amount of wine, we think the same in many ways (well, I might be the only one who watches American Idol still, but you get my point). Once I got a taste of this camaraderie I wanted even more. This is the last puzzle piece if you will. Connection, validation, friendship. My very survival through life depends on it. What I don't understand is how there is no real place where women like us exist in the media. Maybe Sex in the City came close, but frankly who among us can afford those clothes?! I just want an honest, fun and liberating forum where we can talk, bitch and laugh to our heart's content. I don't really need a recipe to make 7-layer bars or a pattern to sew my child's Halloween costume. I want the real stuff...the juicy stuff. This is a humble beginning of an online magazine, if you will, that will shatter all the standard molds for women's literature. It's going to be funny first and foremost, controversial, silly and most of all honest. But I can't take all the credit for this idea by a long stretch, It all really started in an online chat with my friend Beverly. Oh, how I wish we had saved it, so I could paste in here now. She is going to have to share her side of this though and introduce herself to you. I've definitely done enough self-service. I do promise you though, there will be more to come. As soon as I find time between laundry, dishes, dinner and bath time.
